Revibes, Northbourne Group, and Sydney Opera House Join Forces to Eliminate Over 6,000 Single-Use Cups at Forecourt Event Series

In an industry-first initiative, Revibes Co has partnered with Northbourne Group and the Sydney Opera House to implement a large-scale reusable cup program at one of Australia’s most iconic cultural venues. Over the course of the Sydney Opera House Forecourt event series, this collaboration successfully eliminated more than 6,000 single-use cups, setting a new benchmark for sustainable events in Australia.

A Landmark Partnership for Sustainability

As a leader in reusable packaging solutions, Revibes Co has been on a mission to drive sustainability across major entertainment, hospitality, and event industries. Our partnership with Northbourne Group, a premier event catering and hospitality provider, and the globally recognized Sydney Opera House marks a significant step toward reshaping how large-scale events approach waste management.

The Forecourt event series, known for attracting thousands of attendees to enjoy world-class performances against the breathtaking backdrop of the Sydney Harbour, has historically relied on single-use plastic and paper cups. Recognizing the urgent need for a more sustainable alternative, Northbourne Group and the Opera House turned to Revibes for an innovative, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible solution.

How We Made It Happen

Seamless Reuse System Implementation

Revibes provided a closed-loop reusable cup system, ensuring that every beverage served at the Forecourt events contributed to a circular economy. Here’s how we executed this game-changing initiative:

  1. Delivery & Distribution – Revibes delivered thousands of reusable cups to Northbourne Group, ensuring their seamless integration into the existing bar and service areas.

  2. Collection Infrastructure – Strategically placed collection bins and clear signage directed eventgoers to return their cups after use.

  3. On-Site Support & Education – Our team worked closely with Northbourne Group’s staff, training them on the reuse process and providing key messaging to communicate with customers.

  4. Efficient Washing & Redistribution – Used cups were collected, transported to Revibes’ state-of-the-art washing facility, sterilized, and returned for future use, ensuring minimal environmental impact.

The Environmental Impact

By replacing single-use cups with our reusable alternative, we prevented over 6,000 disposable cups from ending up in landfills. This initiative not only reduced plastic waste but also cut down on carbon emissions associated with the production, transportation, and disposal of single-use packaging.

Enhancing the Guest Experience

Contrary to the misconception that sustainable alternatives compromise convenience, the reusable cup program at the Forecourt event series enhanced the guest experience. Attendees enjoyed beverages in high-quality, durable cups designed for comfort and aesthetic appeal. Additionally, the well-organized return stations and clear communication ensured that patrons could easily participate in the initiative without disrupting their event experience.

Why This Matters for the Future of Live Events

Setting a New Standard

The success of this initiative signals a shift in the live events industry. More venues and event organizers are recognizing that sustainability is no longer optional—it’s a necessity. By implementing reusables on a large scale, the Sydney Opera House has set a precedent for other cultural institutions, music festivals, and stadiums across Australia.

Proving That Sustainability is Scalable

One of the key takeaways from this project is that reusables can be implemented at scale without compromising efficiency or profitability. With careful planning, the right infrastructure, and a strong partnership between stakeholders, sustainable practices can become the norm for large-scale events.

Aligning with Consumer Expectations

Today’s audiences are more environmentally conscious than ever before. Implementing reusable solutions aligns with consumer values and enhances the reputation of event organizers and venues. Guests at the Forecourt events responded positively to the initiative, demonstrating that sustainability can drive both operational success and brand loyalty.

What’s Next? Expanding the Reuse Model

Following the success of this initiative, Revibes Co is eager to expand its partnerships and bring reusables to more major events across Australia. We are already in discussions with additional stadiums, music festivals, and hospitality groups to implement similar programs that drive impactful environmental change.

Our vision is to make reuse the standard for all large-scale events, eliminating millions of single-use items each year and paving the way for a more sustainable future.
